102-year-old female athlete wins gold medal at World Masters
Man Kaur, a 102-year-old Chandigarh-based athlete, won the 200m race in the 100-104 age group category at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Spain. Last year, Man Kaur won 100m gold at the World Masters Games at Auckland, New Zealand. World Masters game is considered as an Olympics for senior citizens.

ranks 130 in UN’s human development index
India climbed one spot to 130 among 189 countries in the latest human development index released by the United Nations Development Programme. Within South Asia, India’s human development index (HDI) value is above the average of 0.638 for the region, with Bangladesh and Pakistan, countries with similar population size, being ranked 136 and 150 respectively.

Meeting of India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj led the Indian delegation at the 23rd meeting of India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission (IRIGC-TEC) to discuss the expansion of Russia-India relationship across all sectors. The meeting was chaired by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov.

ranked best among states in PMGSY
Uttarakhand has been ranked the best among states in the country for the construction of maximum number of roads under the PMGSY during 2017-2018. The state constructed a maximum of 1,839 kilometre roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana against a target of 1,500 km set for the year 2017-18.

Unemployment
to stay at 3.5% in India
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has predicted that India’s unemployment rate in 2018 will stay at 3.5 per while China’s would edge up from 4.7 per cent to 4.8 per cent. However, a worrying 77 per cent of employment in India would remain “vulnerable” against just 33 per cent in China.

Freedom fighter Goura Chandra Mohapatra passed away following old age related ailments, at a hospital in Bhadrak district, Odisha. Goura Chandra Mohapatra was 104 years old. He was son of nationalist poet Kanta Kabi Laxmikant Mohapatra.

Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’s birthday is celebrated on 15 September as Engineer’s Day. Fondly referred to as Sir MV, M Visvesvaraya was a world-renowned civil engineer who was a master of irrigation design. He was also referred to as the father of engineers by many.
